Our third "World Series" matches the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Naps both teams won their respective pennants by 12 games. The Cubs where followed the Giants in the
national league and the Naps by the White Sox in the american. Both clubs have strong pitching staffs the Cubs lead by Jack Pfiester who posted a 24-4 record
with a 1.76 era, and Orval Overall who was 19-9 with a 2.66 era and Mordecai "Three finger" Brown who went 18-8 with a 1.78 era. For the Naps their ace
Addie Joss was 23-6 with a record low era of 1.46, followed by Rhodes at 19-10 with an era of 2.14, Bernhard at 17-10, and 2.67 and Otto Hess at 17-14 and an era of
2.47. From the plate both teams have strong leadoff and second hitters for the Cubs it's the league MVP Frank Chance batting leadoff, Frank hit .376 on the season.
Followed by Harry Steinfeldt who batted .346. For the Naps Elmer bats first he hit .315 and stole 41 bases and he is followed by team captian Nap Lajoie who the
club is named after. Nap batted .337 on the season.
Game one of the series and the Cubs send Mordecai Brown to the mound to face the Naps Otto Hess. With the score 3-4 in the top of the 9th the Naps leadoff hitter
Elmer Flick hit a sac fly to tie the score at 4. The Cubs then counter in the bottom half of the ninth with Harry Steinfeldt doubling in Chance for the game winner.

In Game two the Cubs send their ace Jack Pfeister to the mound and the Naps send Jack Rhoads. Pfeister shuts down the Naps allowing only 1 run on 3 hits while the
Cubs come out swinging in the first inning scoring 3 on Frank Shulte's 3 run inside the park home run. Harry Steinfeldt tripled in the 8th scoring Chance to finish out
the scoring.
BOX SCORE GAME TWO
Game three of the series is played at league park III in Cleveland. It's Overall for Chicago versus Bernhard for Cleveland, and this time the hits are flying. The
Cubs out score the Naps 8 to 4 in the contest although the Naps out hit the Cubs 10 to 9. Chicago starting the scoring by posting 2 in the first with Frank Chance
hitting an inside the park homer. Cleveland took the lead in the 5th when Terry Turner singled scoring Bay. But Chicago came right back in the next half frame
as Jimmy Slagle singled scoring 2. Nap Lajoe singled scoring Bay to tie the score in the bottom of the ninth. But then Chicago bounced right back in the top of the
tenth scoring 4 runs when they batting around the entire lineup. Sheckard singled scoring Hofman for the the game winner. The series is now three game to none in
favor of the Cubs.

With their backs against the wall the Naps respon in a big way in game four taking the contest by the score of 10 to 5. Living to play another game the scoring was
led by Elmer Flick who was 2 for 4 on the day with 4 runs and 2 stolen bases and Nap Lajoie who went 3 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI.

The series is now Chicago 3 games to 2 heading back to Chicago. With the Cubs up 1-0 the Naps score 1 run in 5 consecutive innings and add another 3 in the 8th to paste the homeotown Cubs 9-3. Captain Lajoie went 2-4 with a triple and scored 2 runs and Harry Stovall went 3 for 5 with a double and scored another 2 runs. The series is now ties. With the Cubs winning the first three affairs and the Nap's taking the next three.
BOX SCORE GAME SIX
Game 7 starts with a bang as the visiting Cleveland club puts up 3 runs in the top of the first with Lajoie and Bay doubling. Chicago counters with 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd when Frank Schulte tripled scoring 2. Cleveland scores again in the top of the 5th to take a 2 run lead. But Chicago scores to in the bottom of the same inning to tie the game. Cleveland retaliates in the top of the next inning scoring 2 only to have Chicago score 4 in the bottom of the sixth to take a 2 run lead. Cleveland scores 1 run in both the top of the 7th and 8th innings to take a tie the game at 8. The contest goes into extra innings by this time Cleveland is on their third pitcher, Bernard starter followed by Eells and now Townsend is on the mound when Schulte singles home Chance for the game and series winner.
