Baltimore Orioles win their 2nd pennant

Team effort for 2nd straight pennant!

Once again the Orioles of Baltimore take the National League pennant. This time they finished 6 games over the Giants of New York. It was a team effort for the Orioles this time around with solid contributions from the mound with Arlie Pond and Joe Corbett winning 21 games apiece and Jerry Nops with 18 victories. Corbett also led the league in strikeouts with a record 163. The offense was led by Joe Kelley once again as he batted .385 hit 15 homers and collected 148 RBI. "Wee" Willie Keeler their leadoff hitter batted .410 and tied the league record for 64 stolen bases.

Batting second for the Orioles was Hughie Jennings who hit .358 and collected 58 stolen bases. Rounding out the rest of the lineup John McGraw and Jake Stenzel hit .361 and .358 while swipping 54 and 42 bags along the way.

Fred Clarke of Louisville at .409 and Ed Delahanty of Philadelphia at .402. Delahanty now has a career mark of .403 after three seasons. Eight players had hitting streaks of 20 or more games during the season with Fred Clarke's streak lasting the longest at 32 games. Rookie Honus Wagner of the Louisville club had a streak of 26 games.

Another rookie notable was Nap Lajoie all star second baseman of the Philadelphia club who batted .350 and collected 115 RBI. This year's home run king was George Davis of the New York Giants with 15 dingers. Amos Rusie of the New York Giants toppled his pitching wins record by winning 26 games, he was he was also tops in earned run average with a 2.84 mark.

of the New York Giants and Kid Nichols of the Boston Braves. Davis led the league in home runs with 15, triples with 24, and OPS with 1.036, he was also second in the league in RBI and slugging percentage.
