1950s Franchise Best Season

This replay uses Dave Koch's PC Baseball 1950s Best clubs from each franshinse. The teams included are: 1957 Baltimore Orioles, 1950 Boston Red Sox, 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers, 1954 Chicago White Sox, 1952 Chicago Cubs, 1956 Cincinnati Reds, 1954 Cleveland Indians,  1950 Detroit Tigers, 1957 Milwaukee Braves, 1954 New York Giants, 1953 New York Yankees, 1951 Philadelphia Athletics, 1950 Philadelphia Phillies, 1958 Pittsburgh Pirates, and 1958 St. Louis Cardinals.

  • April, 1952

    4/12/1952- '56 Reds tops with 2 wins. Dick Wertz, Tigers batter of the week. Brooks Lawrence, Reds pitcher of the week.

    4/19/1952- '57 Orioles tops with a 7-1 record. Stan Musial, Cardinals tops with 5 homers and 13 RBI. Brooks Lawrence, Reds top pitcher. Early Wynn, Indians tossed a 2 hit shut out of the Tigers on 4/15 at Cleveland Stadium. Hank Bauer, Yankees 2 homers, 2 RBI and 4 hits in loss to White Sox at Comiskey Park 4/16.

    4/26/1952- '50 Tigers top club with a 9-4 record. Billy Goodman, Red Sox top batter .481 ave. Team mate Vern Stephens tops in HR with 6. Herm Wehmeier, Cardinals top pitcher 3 wins 1.73(8) era.

    5/03/1952- '56 Reds and '50 Tigers tops with 13-6 records. Billy Goodman, Red Sox still top batter. Art Houtteman, Tigers top pitcher, 5 wins an 0.99 era! Jackie Robinson, Dodgers 2 homers, 3 RBI and 3 hits in win over Giants 4/29 at the Polo Grounds, New York.

    5/10/1952- '50 Tigers on top in AL 18-7. '50 Phillies and '57 Cardinals tied in NL. Stan Musial, Cardinals top hitter 8 homers. Larry Doby, Indians 9 homers tops. Jerry Priddy, Tigers tops in batting with .371 average. Art Houtteman, Tigers still tops in pitching with 6 wins and a 1.13 era. Jackie Robinson tied with team mate Jim Gilliam with 5 stolen bases. Torre, Braves 2 homers, 3 RBI, 4 Runs in win over Reds on 5.08 at County Stadium, Milwaukee.

    5/17/1952- '50 Tigers stay on top in the AL 20-10, 2.5 over Indians. '57 Braves now on top in NL 18-11, 1 game over '56 Reds and '50 Phillies. Eddie Mathews, Braves tops in batting at .402. Frank Thomas, Pirates and Larry Doby, Indians tops in homers at 9. Mickey Vernon, Nationals, Wally Moon, Cardinals, Gus Bell, Reds knotted at 29 RBI. Curt Simmons, Phillies top pitcher 6 wins and 50 strikeouts both tops.

    5/24/1952- '57 Braves still on top in the NL as are the '50 Tigers, now only 0.5 ahead of the Indians. Al Rosen, Indians top batter .361(3), 10(2) homers. Bob Lemon, Indians top pitcher 8 wins 0 losses.

    5/31/1952- '57 Braves top club with 29-15 record. '53 Yankees tie '50 Tigers for AL pennant. Al Rosen, Indians still top batter, 10(4) homers, .382(1) average. Warren Spahn, Braves top pitcher, 9 wins. Wally Post, Reds 2 homers, 4 RBI in 8-2 win over the Phillies at Crosley Field, Cincinnati.

  • June, 1952

    6/7/1952- '57 Braves and '50 Tigers hold on to their league leads. Al Rosen, Indians still top batter with league leading .359 batting average. Hank Sauer, Cubs leads league in homers at 13. Gus Bell, Reds top in RBI at 44. Bob Lemon, Indians, top pitcher 9 wins. Wally Post, Reds 2 homers, 2 RBI, 3 runs in 12-7 win over Dodgers at Crosley Field, 6/02. Curt Simmons, Phillies strikes out 11 Cubs on 6/05 at Shibe Park, Philadelphia.

    6/14/1952- '57 Braves and '50 Tigers hold leads on top of leagues. Stan Musial, Cardinals is top batter. His batting line .333(2), and 11(5) homers. Art Houtteman, Tigers top pitcher 10(1) wins, 1.75(2) era. Mickey Mantle, Yankees collects 10 total bases in win 21-8 win over the Red Sox, June 13th at Fenway Park, Boston.

    6/21/1952- '57 Braves and '50 Tigers remain on top of leagues. Musial and Houteman are still on top of their respective positions. Ted Williams, Red Sox is top home run man at 18. Don Blasingame, '57 Cardinals stole 3 bases of Marv Grissom and Ray Katt, '54 Giants on 6/16.

    6/28/1952- '50 Tigers holding on to a slim ½ game lead over the '54 Indians in the AL. '57 Braves expand lead over the '50 Phillies to 9 games in the the NL. Bob Lemon, Indians is now the top pitcher with 13 wins.

  • July, 1952

    7/05/1952- '57 Braves humming along now 11 games over '50 Phillies. '50 Tigers still hanging in their now 1 game ahead of '54 Indians. Ted Williams, Red Sox belted two homers in game against the '57 Orioles on July 5th in Memorial Stadium. He is now leading the league with 22 homers.

    7/12/1952- '54 Indians over come the '50 Tigers and gain a 2.5 lead. '57 Braves hold on to their 11 games lead now over the '56 Reds. '50 Tigers Ted Gray strikeout 11 '54 Indians batters on 7/11 at Cleveland Stadium.

    7/19/1952- '54 Indians expand lead to 3.5 games over the '50 Tigers. '57 Braves still 11.5 over the '56 Reds. Eddie Mathews, Braves is now top batter batting .317(4).

    7/26/1952- '57 Braves add to their lead in the NL now 14.5 games ahead of the '53 Dodgers. '50 Tigers now just 2 games behind the '54 Indians in the AL. Elmer Valo, '51 Athletics collects 6 hits in win over the '54 Indians at Cleveland Stadium 7/23. '54 Indians Al Rosen is now the top hitter batting .325(2) and top in homers at 23. Team mate Bob Lemon is still the top pitcher with 17 wins. Pee Wee Reese, '53 Dodgers stole 3 bases off '58 Pirates Ron Kline and Hank Foiles on 7/21, Forbes Field, Pittsburgh.

  • August, 1952

    8/02/1952- Both the '54 Indians and the '57 Braves expand their leads for the pennant. Walt Dropo, Red Sox is now tops in homers at 25. Stan Musial, Cardinals is top batter .315(5), 19(7) HR. Wally Moon, '57 Cardinals and Hank Aaron, '57 Braves tied for RBI lead at 81. Bob Lemon, Indians and team mate Early Wynn are 1 and 2 in pitching wins at 18 and 16. Del Ennis, '57 Cardinals belted 2 homers and collected 7 RBI in contest against the '57 Braves on 7/31 at County Stadium, Milwaukee.

    8/09/1952- '53 Yankees move into a second place tie with '50 Tigers at 4 games behind the '54 Indians in the AL. '57 Braves hold a comfortable lead in the NL 15.5 games ahead the '50 Phillies. Hank Aaron, '57 Braves is now to batter with 24(3) homers, .319(3) batting average and 89(1) RBI.

    8/16/1952- '53 Yankees now alone in second place behind the '54 Indians at 2.5 out. '57 Braves are no 16 games ahead of the '53 Dodgers.

    8/23/1952- '54 Indians lead now down to 2 games over '53 Yankees and 3 over '50 Tigers. Early Wynn, '54 Indians is now top pitcher with 20 wins. Don Mueller, '54 Giants is top batter at .336. Walt Dropo, Red Sox belts his 30th homer off, Eddie Lopat on 8/20 at Yankee Stadium. New York.

    8/30/1952- '53 Yankees move into first place in AL 1.5 games ahead of the '54 Indians. '57 Braves hold on to 16 game lead over the '53 Dodgers in NL. Larry Doby, '54 Indians hits 30th homer of the season off '51 Athletics Kellner on 8/25 at Cleveland Stadium. Stan Musial, '57 Cardinals top batter leading the league with a .334 average. Early Wynn and Bob Lemon now both with 20 wins for the '54 Indians. Roy Campanella, '53 Dodgers hits his 30th homer of the season off Ron Kline of the Pirates in Ebbets Field, Brooklyn on 8/30.

  • September, 1952

    9/06/1952- '53 Yankees now 4 games over '54 White Sox and 4.5 over the '54 Indians and the '50 Tigers in the AL. Virgil Trucks, '54 White Sox joins 20 game winners.

    9/13/1952- '53 Yankees add to lead in AL to 5 games ahead of '54 White Sox. Virgil Trucks, '54 White Sox now top pitcher with 21 wins. Willie Mays, Giants 2 homers off Preacher Roe, '53 Dodgers at Ebbetts Field, Brooklyn on 9/9.

    9/20/1952- '57 Braves extend lead to 16.5 games over the '53 Dodgers in NL. '53 Yankees now 6.0 games ahead of '54 White Sox. Stan Musial, '57 Cardinals is top hitter with .336 average. Virgil Trucks, '54 White Sox remains the top pitcher with 21 wins tying Bob Lemon, '54 Indians, and Warren Spahn, '57 Braves. There is only one more week left in the season.

    9/27/1952- End of Season. '57 Braves take NL pennant and will host the '53 Yankees in the World Series winning 101 games to 95. '53 Dodgers finished second in the NL 17 games behind the Braves. There was a three way tie for 2nd in the AL, '54 White Sox, '54 Indians and the '50 Tigers finished 8 games behind the Yankees.

    End of season award winner- Warren Spahn, '57 Braves wins the Cy Young award with 23 wins, 3.44 era and a 1.163 WHIP. Stan Musial, .'57 Cardinals was named MVP batting a .341/.429/.594 with 28 HR(1), 91 RBI.
