Willie Mays took Major League Baseball by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 23.
For his spectacular campaign, the New York Giants star has been named the 1954 NL Most Valuable Batter Award recipient.
"To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the center fielder.
On the season he compiled a .343 batting average to go with a .417 on-base percentage. The native of Westfield, Massachusetts also added 21 doubles, 13 triples, 49 home runs, 141 RBIs and 125 runs scored.
He received 16 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Duke Snider of the Brooklyn Dodgers finished second in voting, while Stan Musial of the St. Louis Cardinals finished third.
