05/27 Thrice Is Nice: Smith Unloads 3 Homers

The "hardest feat in sports" debate is a never-ending one with no correct answer, but hitting three home runs is certainly in the conversation. That's exactly what Elmer Smith did at Tycoons Grounds, going deep three times and carrying his team to victory, 23-9.

"It all came together. I was seeing the ball well and I got some good pitches to hit," Smith said. "Good things happen, when that happens."

The Cleveland 20 Indians right fielder blistered the Baltimore 29 Black Sox for 4 hits, batted in 8 runs and scored 4 times.

"It ain't like we weren't trying," Baltimore 29 manager Frank Warfield said. "He was hot and really torched my boys today."

Elmer Smith hit a two-run home run off Bun Hayes in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Bun Hayes in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Script Lee in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.

In 37 games this season, Smith has compiled a .375 batting average with 54 hits and 10 home runs. He has also scored 31 times and knocked in 54 runs.
