First Season Replay – Greatest WAR Seasons

After simulating a 162 game season with the 30 clubs the following clubs finished 1-8 in each league. In the 1900-1968 league, including the Deadball, Golden and Boomers eras were ranked top to bottom; 1920, 1912, 1962, 1924, 1916, 1940, 1948, and 1960. In the 1969-2024 league icluding the Artifical Turf, Canden Yards and the Statistical eras. the clubs were ranked top to bottom; 2012, 1982, 1977, 2016, 2020, 1992, 1974, and 2000. Remember the teams are made up of the top WAR players from a span of 4 years, i. the 1992 clubs includes players from 1989-1992.

The winners of the first round; 1916, 1920, 1948, 1940, 2000, 2020, 1977 and 1982 advanced to the third round. The four clubs to make it to round three were 1940, 1920, 2020 and 1977.

Here is a breakdown of the final four clubs, starting with the 1940 team, the Chicago White Sox who finished in second place. Notice the pitchers, and batters are like a best of players from the early 1940’s.

The next club the 1920 New York Giants finished in first place. Here are their pitchers and batters, once again the club is a collection of the best players from thr early 1920s.

The third club is from the modern era the 2020 Arizona Diamonbacks, like the other two the list is a who’s who of current stars. This club finished in third place.

The last club is from 1977, the Texas Rangers, they finished in second place.

Based on these clubs you can only image some of the other clubs. The 1920 Giants went on to beat the 2020 Arizona club in the final round. It was interesting the final clubs were 100 years apart.
