10/04 Kansas City '24 Advances to Round 2

The Kansas City 24 Monarchs are bound for the Round 2.

A 7-5 win over the Brooklyn 53 Dodgers at Ebbets Field ended the Round 1, 4-1.

"We're not trying to get ahead of ourselves, but it's hard not to get pumped up and excited and think about how this season could end," said Heavy Johnson. "This could be the biggest celebration Kansas City 24 has ever seen if we can win the Round 4."

The state of the Major League Baseball championship remains in doubt, but the Monarchs certainly appear to be strong contenders.

Johnson was named MVP of the Round 1 after he posted a .545 batting average, while adding 1 home runs, driving in 6 RBI and scoring 3 runs.

Lou Gehrig said his New York 27 Yankees simply weren't ready for the season to come to an end.

"We told ourselves we were winning this series no matter what," he said, shortly after being named the Round 1 MVP, following a 14-6 win at Yankee Stadium that officially eliminated the New York 39 Yankees, 4-2.

Gehrig said his team is "confident and ready" for the Round 2.

Browns Win Round 1

The sweet swing of Ken Williams has led his team through the Round 1.

The St. Louis 22 Browns star earned series MVP honors as his club downed the Homestead 37 Grays to advance to the Round 2.

The Browns won the final game at Sportsmans Park by a score of 5-1 and the series 4-2.

"I'm seeing the ball well and happy to contribute to a win," said Williams. "I hope it continues for the rest of the playoffs."

For the series, Williams hit .391 with a .440 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 5 runs.

Homestead '43 Wins Round 1

The Homestead 43 Grays are on to the Round 2, having knocked out the Cleveland 20 Indians 4-2.

The final blow came tonight at Penmen Field of Homestead, where Homestead 43 sealed the Round 1 with a 12-9 triumph.

Cool Papa Bell was instrumental in the series win and was given MVP honors. Bell hit .500 with a .576 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 8 runs.

The Homestead 43 Grays will play against the New York 27 Yankees in the next round. New York 27 won their series against the New York 39 Yankees 4 games to 2. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.

10/05 Stars Move on to Round 2

Cool Papa Bell said he didn't even realize how well he had been playing in the Round 1 until he was shown his own statistics.

The St. Louis 31 Stars center fielder put up a .393 average with 2 home runs, 2 RBI and 7 runs scored, enough to earn him series MVP honors. It all added up to his Stars advancing to the Round 2, with a 4-2 series win over the New York 32 Yankees.

"I didn't really pay attention to the numbers or my stats at all as we went along," he said. "I'm just so focused on trying to help the team win, that's it."

The series victory had become official with a 3-2 triumph at Wheat Kings Ballpark. Even if Bell is not paying close attention to his stats, the rest of baseball certainly will be keeping an eye on him as the playoffs continue.

"I like to be under pressure and think I respond well to it," he said.

Pittsburgh '25 Takes Round 1

After eliminating the Kansas City 42 Monarchs 7-5 in the Round 1 at Forbes Field, the victorious Pittsburgh 25 Pirates will now move on to the next round: the Round 2.

Pittsburgh 25 beat Kansas City 42 4-2 in the series. The MVP trophy was awarded to Pirates right fielder Kiki Cuyler, who knocked in 12 runs, hit .462 and scored 9 times.

"The guys were all chanting 'M-V-P' when I went into the clubhouse," Cuyler said later, with a smile. "It was kind of embarrassing but it feels great to be here."

10/07 Reds heading to Round 2

The joy and relief on the faces of the Cincinnati 19 Reds players was obvious as they celebrated their Round 1 win over the St. Louis 42 Cardinals.

"In a series like this, the smallest thing can make the difference in how it turns out," said Cincinnati 19 first baseman Jake Daubert, shortly after the 8-6 win that clinched the series 4-3. "We're happy we did what it takes to get it done."

The team is now off to the Round 2.

Daubert won series MVP honors on the strength of his .444 batting average during the series. He also had a .459 on-base percentage and 0 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 6 runs.

The Cincinnati 19 Reds don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Brooklyn 42 Dodgers - Chicago 26 American Giants series. That series is tied at 3 games apiece. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.

Brooklyn '42 Moves on to Round 2

The Brooklyn 42 Dodgers were paced by a strong offensive output from Pete Reiser as they downed the Chicago 26 American Giants 4-3 to win the Round 1.

Brooklyn 42 won the final game by a score of 5-3 at Schorling's Park to send themselves off to the Round 2.

"I wasn't so much focused on putting up big offensive numbers as I was about ensuring we won the games. So it's mission accomplished there," said center fielder Reiser, who was named MVP.

For the series, the MVP hit .469 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 9 runs.
