08/01 Dugan Smacks 6 Hits for Yankees

It was a good day for the Yankees at Yankee Stadium as they clipped the Chicago 20 American Giants, 18-2. It was tremendous day for Joe Dugan, who was on a hitting barrage at the plate, finishing 6-for-6.

"I don't know what to call that," the New York 27 third baseman told reporters after his big performance. "I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' I just try to keep it simple. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then I hit it. Today I picked up the spin pretty well."

Joe Dugan singled in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

Dugan has a .326 average and a .371 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 94 hits, 1 home run and driven in 35 runs.

08/03 Foxx Rips 3 HR

Philadelphia 31 Athletics bombardier Jimmie Foxx set his sights on the stands and blasted three balls over the fence as his club beat the St. Louis 22 Browns, 16-1.

"I guess you could say I was a good guesser today, especially on the last one," Foxx told writers in the postgame press room. "I was ahead in the count, so I gambled that I'd get a certain pitch, and got all of it."

For the game, the Philadelphia 31 first baseman had 4 hits in 5 at-bats, drove in 8, and scored 3 runs.

Jimmie Foxx flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Bill Bayne in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Bill Bayne in the 5th, hit a three-run double in the 5th and hit a two-run home run off Dixie Davis in the 7th.

This season, Foxx is batting .348 with 26 home runs.

08/21 Kansas City '24 Snaps Frisch Streak at 33

Frankie Frisch saw his 33-game hitting streak wither and die during the New York 22 Giants win over Kansas City 24 at Polo Grounds. The 24-year-old second baseman was held hitless in 3 at-bats by the Kansas City 24 Monarchs, but his teammates produced enough offense to win the game, 3-0.

"Am I disappointed about the hit streak? Maybe, just a little bit," a seemingly upbeat Frisch told reporters in the clubhouse. "But really, how could you be unhappy after you hit in 33 straight games? I'm just glad it lasted as long as it did. Life is good."

Looking at his season stats, Frisch has compiled a .337 batting average and a .386 on-base percentage, while hitting 11 home runs and driving in 56 runs.

08/22 Razor-sharp Flournoy Blanks Chicago '17

A masterful pitching performance carried the Baltimore 29 Black Sox to victory over Chicago 17, 4-0. Willis Flournoy held the White Sox scoreless in a complete-game effort.

He permitted 6 hits, had no strikeouts, and allowed 2 walks.

"Flournoy was sharp," White Sox manager Pants Rowland said later. "We never did figure him out."

In 28 starts this season, Flournoy has registered a 7-19 record and a 6.67 ERA.

08/22 Wilson Belts Bunch of Base Hits

It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Jud Wilson, it came around today.

The 35-year-old third baseman scattered hits all over Comiskey Park to pace the 4-0 Baltimore 29 Black Sox victory over the Chicago 17 White Sox.

Chicago 17 skipper Pants Rowland told reporters in the press room that "Wilson deserves a hat-tip."

"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Wilson hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."

Jud Wilson singled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

Thus far in 1930, Wilson is hitting .355 with 10 home runs, 63 RBIs, 82 runs scored and has compiled a .413 OBP.

08/29 6-Hit Blitz by Kansas City '42's Serrell

Bonnie Serrell really sizzled at the plate in his team's 18-3 win over the Baltimore 41 Elite Giants. The Kansas City 42 second baseman blistered Baltimore 41 for 6 hits in 6 at-bats.

"Serrell was too tough to get out today," the Elite Giants skipper said in the postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."

Bonnie Serrell singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

This season, Serrell is batting .377 with 8 home runs. He has scored 83 runs and driven in 65.

08/30 Hits Blitz for Yankees Ruth

Babe Ruth truly did it all at Yankee Stadium.

The New York 32 Yankees right fielder hit for the cycle -- collecting 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run -- as he paced his club to victory, 10-2, over the New York 39 Yankees.

"You know that sweet sound you hear when you hit the ball just right? I heard that every time today," Ruth said later. "It was a heck of a feeling."

It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed New York 39 pitching for 4 hits in 5 at-bats and his name will now go into the record books. Ruth also racked up 1 RBI and 3 runs scored in the game.

Babe Ruth grounded out in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Marius Russo in the 4th, singled in the 6th, tripled in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.

This season, Ruth is hitting .360 with 35 home runs.
