07/01 Ruth Picks Up Best AL Batter Honor for June
When guys like New York 32's Babe Ruth win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive June, the longtime AL veteran toyed with opposing pitchers, collecting 39 hits in 85 at-bats.
The veteran right fielder hit for a .459 batting average and collected 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
This year, Ruth is batting .376 with 20 home runs and 73 RBIs. In 67 games he has scored 59 times.
Gomez Top AL Pitcher in June
Lefty Gomez of the New York 39 Yankees outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 5-1 won-lost mark and 1.75 ERA in 7 starts to get the AL Pitcher of the Month honors.
Gomez had a very impressive June, finishing with 30 strikeouts in 56.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .177 average.
For this year, Gomez has chalked up 12 wins and 4 losses in 18 starts with 69 strikeouts in 143.2 innings and a 3.07 ERA.
Cardinals cooper June's #1 Pitcher
Mort Cooper is the latest NL Pitcher of the Month award winner. The St. Louis 42 starter stood out on the hill time and again last month and finished June with a sparkling 8-1 record.
In 5 starts last month, he fanned 33, walked 14 in 52.2 innings and posted a 2.56 ERA. Cooper held opposing teams to a .220 batting average when he was on the mound.
Checking out his stats for the season, Cooper has registered 18 wins and 3 losses in 15 starts, posted a 3.56 ERA, and struck out 77 batters in 144 innings.
07/02 Bang-up Game: Campanella Slams 3 Homers
Today was a special one for Roy Campanella of the Brooklyn 53 Dodgers as he slammed three home runs in the 16-12 Dodgers win over the Chicago 26 American Giants.
"Lately, I've been uppercutting the ball too much," he said to sportswriters after the game. "I would hit it hard, but they just went sky high and stayed in the ballpark. No big long outs for me in this game. I leveled out my swing and connected on the sweet spot. I knew they were gone the minute I hit 'em."
The Brooklyn 53 catcher collected 3 hits in 4 at-bats, drove in 7, and scored 3 runs in the contest at Ebbets Field.
Roy Campanella hit a three-run home run off Steel Arm Tyler in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Steel Arm Tyler in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Steel Arm Tyler in the 4th, grounded out in the 5th and was hit by a pitch in the 6th.
So far this year, Campanella has hit .284 with 14 home runs, 60 RBIs and 45 runs scored.

07/20 Red-Hot Bat: Mothel Collects Cycle
It was a special day for Dink Mothell at Meuhlback Field. Not only did Mothell's Kansas City 24 Monarchs beat the Baltimore 41 Elite Giants, 20-5, but the first baseman hit for the cycle along the way.
The 28-year-old Mothell racked up 2 singles, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name in the record books. For the game, he went 5-for-6 with 7 RBI and 3 runs scored.
"He hit everything we threw," said Elite Giants manager Felton Snow. "There was just no getting him out today."
Speaking to the press after the game, Mothell said his goal for the day had been to look for "first pitch fastballs."
"I got some good looks today," he said.
Dink Mothell singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run triple in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Jesse Brown in the 8th.
Mothell is hitting .332 this season with 3 home runs, 46 RBIs and 41 runs scored. He has 100 hits in 301 at-bats.
07/21 Bell Puts Screw to Chicago '35
William Bell of the Detroit 32 Wolves was in the zone, mowing down Chicago 35 hitters in a sterling 2-0 shutout performance.
"I'm feeling good overall," he said. "I'm executing my pitches, I'm able to hit my spots and I'm getting outs in key situations."
Bell shut down the Chicago 35 Cubs, blanking them on 5 hits while registering 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.
This season, Bell has compiled a 10-10 record with a 4.67 ERA in 23 starts.
