Magic was in the air and on the mound at Shibe Park, as Bill Foster held the Philadelphia 50 Phillies spellbound in his 4-0 shutout victory. The Chicago 26 American Giants pitcher went the distance, rang up 2 strikeouts, walked 4, and held the Phillies to 3 hits.

"He just had us in his thrall," Philadelphia 50 manager Eddie Sawyer said. "We couldn't put anything together against him.”

04/17 Ted Trent Holds Cardinals Down in Hamtramack

Ted Trent kept the St. Louis 31 Cardinals hitters from doing much damage at Hamtramck Stadium in Detorit.

St. Louis 31 could only muster 5 hits and draw 3 walks against the right-handed Trent, who controlled them throughout the game. Detroit 32 won the contest, 1-0. Trent added 3 strikeouts in his complete-game effort.

"I don't know if I was on or if they were off today," Trent told reporters after the shutout win. "But whatever it was, I hope it happens again next time."

04/21 Hank Greenberg Player of the Week

Detroit 35 sports fans can't stop singing the praises of Hank Greenberg, who has been selected the AL Player of the Week.

Greenberg was in a comfort zone all week, finishing with a .500 average (15-for-30), 12 RBIs and 3 home runs.

04/29 Beckwith Goes Deep 3 Times

John Beckwith of the Lincoln Giants went on a hitting spree at Yankees Stadium and earned membership in the select club of hitters who have hit three home runs in a game. He blasted three into the stands in a loss, 8-7, to the St. Louis 31 Stars.

"I'm not happy with the outcome of the game, but it was still a great game for me," Beckwith said in the clubhouse following the loss. "I have been making solid contact lately, but not getting any lift. Today I got it up in the air and out of the ballpark. I had my home run swing down pat. Got some good pitches to hit, too."

The New York 30 first baseman did indeed have quite a game, collecting 3 hits in 5 at-bats, 7 RBIs and scoring 3 runs.
