What a way to finish off the year -- being honored with the 1954 Most Valuable Batter Award in the AL. It had already been a very special season for Boston's Ted Williams, but today's announcement really put the icing on his cake.

All season long Ted Williams gave opposing pitchers fits by hitting .351 as he collected 186 hits, 33 doubles, 1 triple, 39 home runs and 128 RBIs.

He received 12 first place votes out of a possible 16. Ted Kluszewski of the Detroit Tigers finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Al Rosen of the Boston Red Sox finished third.
