Furillo Nabs AL Weekly Award Monday, September 13th , 1954 It was announced today by the AL that Detroit left fielder Carl Furillo had received the Player of the Week Trophy for his superlative play last week. The Detroit left fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers, pounding them for a .567 average (17-for-30) with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.
