Antonelli Whips Chicago, 1-0
Monday, September 6th , 1954
All went well for Johnny Antonelli of the Milwaukee Braves as he pitched his team to a shutout victory, 1-0, over the Chicago Cubs, limiting them to 2 hits. In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Antonelli on the day.
"Johnny's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy," said Braves manager . "He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
In the contest, the Milwaukee left-hander rang up 7 and surrendered 4 walks.
"He didn't give us any second chances," said Cubs manager . "It's a guessing game with him and today we were always guessing wrong."
This season, Antonelli has fanned 143 in 218 innings and collected a 14-9 record with a 3.88 ERA.
