1911 Best Player Selected In AL
Tuesday, November 7th , 1911
At the age of 24, Ty Cobb of the Detroit Tigers could very well have his best years ahead of him.

It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 1911 was good enough to win the center fielder the AL Most Valuable Batter Award.

"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."

The top hitter put up a .428 batting average this year, as well as a .482 on-base percentage. He played 153 games and racked up 271 hits, 42 doubles, 28 triples, 11 home runs, 118 RBIs and 153 runs scored.

He received 16 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Eddie Collins of the Philadelphia Athletics finished second in voting, while Tris Speaker of the Boston Red Sox finished third.
