September's #1 Starter Named in NL Sunday, October 1st , 1911 In September, when the name of Frank Lange appeared on the Pittsburgh lineup card it was a virtual lock on a victory. He started 6 times and chalked up 5 wins and 1 loss. With those stats it was also a virtual lock that he would be named the NL Pitcher of the Month. Lange shackled opposing batters on 48 base hits and a .240 batting average. He rang up 39 strikeouts in 55.2 innings of work, surrendered 23 walks and fashioned a sparkling 3.07 ERA.
