Sunday, October 8th , 1916
Not only has Babe Ruth been named winner of the 1916 NL Most Valuable Player Award, he's done it at an age when many of his peers are still trying to establish themselves in Major League Baseball.

"I feel fortunate to win this award at age 21," he said. "I feel like I still have my best years ahead of me. Hopefully I can put my name on this trophy a few more times."

The St. Louis Cardinals ace had a 27-8 record over 38 starts and 329 innings. He struck out 141, issued 103 walks and had an impressive 1.23 ERA.

Batters hit only .170 against him during the season.

He received 16 first place votes out of a possible 20. Bullet Rogan of the Pittsburgh Pirates finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Roger Peckinpaugh of the St. Louis Cardinals finished third.
