Orioles Lose Late, 3-2
|
Minnesota turned a good effort from starter Roy Welmaker into a win over the Baltimore Orioles at Target Field. The Twins won the game, 3-2. Joe Nathan snagged the win in relief. He goes to 7-0 on the season. Tim Stoddard suffered the loss. The Twins lead the American League Central Division by a game.
The game-ending blow was delivered by Chuck Knoblauch in the bottom of the ninth. That's when he hit a solo home run off 26-year old right-handed pitcher Tim Stoddard to win it for Minnesota and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.
"This was a gut-wrenching loss," said Baltimore manager , "the kind that'll give you an ulcer."
