Texas turned a good effort from starter Fergie Jenkins into a win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. The Rangers won the game, 3-1. Jenkins got the win, improving to 1-1. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. He allowed 1 run. The loss drops the Kansas City record to a disappointing 3-4.

Texas used a clutch at-bat from Josh Hamilton to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Rangers ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
