The Minnesota Twins picked up a win at Tropicana Field, knocking off the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-3. Starting pitcher Ted Trent was a big reason why. Picking up the save was Joe Nathan, his 21st. Minnesota, now 49-40, holds down first place in the American League Central Division.

Roy Smalley III had a direct impact on the outcome. Smalley III contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Minnesota up, 4-3.

In postgame remarks, Trent hailed his team's "grit."
