The Detroit Tigers scooped up a win at Comerica Tigers Park, dumping the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-2. Andy Cooper, who leads the AL in strikeouts with 157, was essential to his team's success. Cooper, now 8-4, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Detroit currently is in last place in the American League Central Division at 37-48.

In the bottom of the first, 28-year old right fielder Harry Heilmann hit a 2-run double. The 21st double of the season for the Detroit designated hitter put the Tigers on top, 2-0.

"Helping the team win is what it's all about," said Heilmann.
