Behind a fine performance from Al Simmons, the Oakland Athletics knocked off the Chicago White Sox in 11 innings, 6-5. Simmons was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Athletics. Oakland reliever Tim Hudson picked up the win, upping his record to 5-3. Hoyt Wilhelm was saddled with the loss. Oakland, now 47-40, holds down second place in the American League Western Division.

The Athletics got a clutch hit from left fielder Rickey Henderson. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Athletics.
