Lyons Belts 2 Homers in 12-3 Win
|
The Seattle Mariners handed the Toronto Blue Jays a sound defeat, 12-3, at Rogers Centre. Jimmie Lyons, who is tied for 8th in the AL in home runs with 15, was a main contributor to the win. He hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 6 for Seattle. Felix Hernandez picked up the win, improving his season record to 9-5. He struck out 8 in 6.2 innings. Seattle is now 43-44, while Toronto is 44-43.
With Seattle leading 2-0 in the top of the third, Lyons batted against Toronto pitcher Doyle Alexander. Lyons hit a fastball to right-center for a 3-run home run. His 15th home run of the season put the Mariners on top, 5-0.
Said Toronto manager after the blowout loss: "They did pretty much every facet of the game better than we did and that's why we lost."
