The Cleveland Indians faced a tough opponent in Kansas City pitcher Zack Greinke, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Kauffman Stadium by a final score of 4-3 in 10 innings. Greinke went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. The third-place Indians go to 43-41.

The Indians beat the Royals in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Manny Ramirez produced in the top of the tenth. Batting against Steve Busby, Ramirez gave his team the lead, 4-3, when he hit a run-scoring single.

"That's what these guys do," said Indians manager . "They battle, they fight."
