|
The New York Yankees topped the Oakland Athletics, 9-4, in American League action at O.co Coliseum. The game was highlighted by the performance of New York pitcher Ron Guidry. Guidry, now 10-3, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing no runs. The win boosts the Yankees to 49-33. The loss puts the Athletics at 45-37.
With no one out in the top of the eighth, Mickey Mantle had a game-changing hit. The Yankees center fielder slammed a 2-run single off Tim Hudson, making the score 3-0, New York.
"I had pretty good command out there," said Guidry.
