Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins.

Minnesota got a terrific performance from pitcher Walter Johnson, but it wasn't enough to beat the Boston Red Sox. Boston won the Target Field contest, 2-1. Johnson threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The Red Sox, at 42-40, sit in second place in the American League Eastern Division.

Carl Yastrzemski aided the Boston cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth. For the game, the left fielder went 1 for 4.

"Tough loss," said Minnesota manager . "The kind that burns a little inside."
