Thon goes 3-for-5 to Power Astros Offense
Dickie Thon added some punch to the Houston offense, helping them outmuscle the Chicago White Sox, 18-8. In the game, Thon went 3-5 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. Houston reliever Mike Scott was the winner. His record is now 3-1. Dick Whitworth took the loss. Billy Wagner earned the save for Houston, his 1st.

With Houston leading 10-8 in the top of the ninth, Thon came up to bat against Chicago pitcher Wilbur Wood. Thon hit a knuckleball to left for a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season put the Astros on top, 13-8.

"We're leading the horse race," said Thon. "But we're not yet in the home stretch."

The victory gives Houston a record of 51-32.
