Mike Mussina was locked and loaded, helping the Baltimore Orioles beat the Kansas City Royals, 3-1. Stu Miller got the save, his 23rd in 26 chances. The win makes Baltimore 39-42.

Baltimore took a 3-1 lead on Clint Thomas's 18th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Thomas hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Kansas City pitcher Kyle Farnsworth shaking his head.

"Mike did a really nice job of taking the ball and giving us a chance to win the game," said Baltimore manager .
