Minnesota beat Chicago at Target Field, eking out a 6-5 win. The triumph was primarily due to shortstop Roy Smalley III. He went 2-3 with 2 doubles. He drove in 3 runs. The victory gives the Twins a record of 43-36.

To win this one, the Twins needed Smalley III to deliver the clutch hit. His 2-run double off Chicago hurler Hoyt Wilhelm in the bottom of the ninth won the game.

"I'm as polite as the next guy," said Smalley III. "But not when the game's on the line."
