Rays Accelerate to Late Win Over Tigers
The Tampa Bay Rays faced a tough opponent in Detroit pitcher Justin Verlander, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Tropicana Field by a final score of 3-2. Verlander went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Grant Balfour snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-1 on the season. Harry Coveleski suffered the loss. The Rays raised their record to 32-42.

Evan Longoria was the walk-off hero for Tampa Bay. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Rays third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Longoria said.
