Yankees Rally to Win
|
Minnesota wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Walter Johnson, falling to the New York Yankees, 2-0. Johnson threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. New York reliever Rich Gossage picked up the win, upping his record to 4-0. Walter Johnson was saddled with the loss. New York sits in first place in the American League Eastern Division at 42-29.
It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Joe DiMaggio, the 22-year old left fielder . DiMaggio contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the ninth inning to put New York up, 1-0.
New York manager commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
