2-1 Loss to Twins Extends Detroit Losing Streak
|
Starting pitcher Roy Welmaker fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the Minnesota Twins stymie the Detroit Tigers, 2-1. Welmaker, the winner, moves to 8-5. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 1 walk. Eddie Guardado got credit for the save for Minnesota. It was his 5th of the year.
Tony Oliva had a critical at-bat with no one out in the bottom of the eighth for Minnesota. He came through with a run-scoring single to put Minnesota in front, 2-0.
"I know everybody in here is putting in the work," said Detroit manager . "It's just not paying off."
Detroit is in the throes of a long losing streak, which is now 9 games.
