Red Sox Trip Indians, 4-3
|
The Boston Red Sox had to overcome a big game from Cleveland center fielder Kenny Lofton to leave Fenway Park with a victory. And they did, winning, 4-3. Lofton was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2. Cy Young, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 4-7. Dick Radatz, credited with the save, is now 4 for 7 in save opportunities.
The Indians had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Red Sox going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 31-year old first baseman Luke Easter came to the plate. Easter hit a 2-run double on a 0-1 slider from Cleveland hurler Bob Feller. It was Easter's 14th double of the year.
"We were the better team," crowed Easter.
The win makes Boston 36-36.
