Rays Get Past Toronto for 4-3 Win
Toronto got a terrific performance from pitcher Dave Stieb, but it wasn't enough to beat the Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa Bay won the Tropicana Field contest, 4-3. Stieb threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. The win went to Grant Balfour in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Duane Ward took the loss. Tampa Bay, now 27-38, holds down last place in the American League Eastern Division.

The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Tampa Bay trailing 3-2, George Carr hit a fastball from Duane Ward to left-center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Rays had a walk-off win.

"The fans went nuts at the end," Carr said.
