Red Sox Peel Off 5-2 Win
|
The New York Yankees got a sterling performance from pitcher Ron Guidry, but the Boston Red Sox still prevailed, 5-2. Guidry threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball. Cy Young went 7.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits. The right-hander, who is tied for 8th in the AL in innings pitched with 94.0, struck out 6 and walked 1. With the win, he's now 3-7 this season. The Red Sox, at 33-34, sit in third place in the American League Eastern Division.
Boston used a clutch at-bat from Dustin Pedroia to capture the win. The second baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Even warm beer tastes good after a win," said Pedroia.
