Road Win Lifts Cincinnati to 1-0 Lead in R1
|
If the Philadelphia Phillies were expecting the pressure of the playoffs to get to Satchel Paige, they underestimated the old man.
The Cincinnati Reds got a strong start from the 37-year-old right-hander. Paige threw 6.2 innings allowing 2 runs as Cincinnati won the contest, 3-2, at Citizens Bank Park to take the lead in their best-of-7 series with the Phillies. The Reds now lead 1-0.
Heinie Groh had a direct impact on the outcome. Groh contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to put Cincinnati up, 2-1.
"Every team in baseball loses," Phillies manager said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
