The Oakland Athletics got a sterling performance from pitcher Lefty Grove, but the Baltimore Orioles still prevailed, 4-0. Grove threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Urban Shocker, the winner, improved to 1-4. He held the Athletics to no runs on 4 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 1 and walking 5. Baltimore is now 28-32.

Baltimore used a well-timed hit by Paul Blair to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Orioles ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
