Despite a fine performance by center fielder Ty Cobb, the Detroit Tigers lost to the New York Yankees, 6-5, in 13 innings. Cobb was 4-5 with a triple, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times. With the win, New York pushed its record to 36-22.

The climactic moment came in the bottom of the 13th for New York. That's when Joe DiMaggio, who is rated as the 56th best prospect by BNN, hit a solo home run off Max Scherzer to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.
