Texas Stumbles Again, Falls, 1-0, to New York
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Yankee Stadium. But 25-year old left fielder Babe Ruth produced just enough offense to carry the Yankees past the Texas Rangers, 1-0. Ruth threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball. Mariano Rivera picked up the save for New York, his 17th of the year. The Yankees have an impressive 33-19 record.
The Yankees got a big hit from catcher Thurman Munson. Facing Texas pitcher Rube Curry in the bottom of the fifth, Munson pounded a solo home run to right. His 3rd home run of the season put the Yankees ahead, 1-0.
"That's baseball," said Texas manager . "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
