Smith 4-for-4, Ignites Cleveland Offense
|
Al Smith impressed in the 10-7 Cleveland win over Minnesota. Smith, who is tied for 9th in the AL with a .358 on-base percentage, went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Cleveland pitcher Rafael Betancourt earned the win, hiking his record to 4-2. Al Worthington suffered the loss. Addie Joss got the save, the 11th for him this season.
Joe Greene was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Cleveland. The 30-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 7-7 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Al Worthington. It was his 15th RBI of the season.
"When you win, you always have confidence," said Cleveland skipper . "Nobody likes to lose. Losing is a downer. That's how we look at it. It's always good to win."
The Indians now have a record of 24-27 with the win over Minnesota.
