Royals Score Late, Upend Rangers, 3-0
|
The Kansas City Royals took Texas pitcher Nolan Ryan's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The final score had Kansas City getting past the Rangers, 3-0. Ryan went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 5. Greg Holland picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Akinori Otsuka suffered the loss. The last-place Rangers have lost 5 consecutive games.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Texas pitcher Francisco Cordero, he hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Kansas City on top, 1-0.
Afterward, Texas manager said: "We were guessing wrong on pitches, and that's something we've got to get away from."
