Tigers Win, 7-5, Versus Texas
|
The Texas Rangers got a sterling performance from left fielder Bullet Rogan, but the Detroit Tigers still prevailed, 7-5. Rogan hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Detroit reliever John Hiller picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Francisco Cordero absorbed the loss. Willie Hernandez stitched up the save, his 7th.
Detroit went up, 6-5, on Tony Phillips's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Phillips hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Texas pitcher Francisco Cordero stewing.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Phillips told reporters after the game.
Detroit has a record of 22-24, placing them third in the American League Central Division.
