Angel Stadium of Anaheim was the site of a competitive game between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels.

Los Angeles pitcher Roy Partlow had a large part in his team subduing the New York Yankees, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. The winning pitcher was Partlow, now 3-3. He tossed 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Picking up the save was Francisco Rodriguez, his 9th.

In the bottom of the fourth, Bobby Grich delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and a runner on 2nd, the Los Angeles second baseman hit a run-scoring single, putting the Angels in front, 3-2.

"Roy kind of went out and dug down and got some outs when he needed to," said Los Angeles manager .

Los Angeles, now 21-26, holds down 4th place in the American League Western Division.
