Red-Hot Yankees Win 8th Straight
|
The 7-4 New York win over Los Angeles was due in large part to Babe Ruth. The Yankees designated hitter threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. New York, at 29-17, is 4½ games up in the American League Eastern Division.
New York used a timely hit from Don Mattingly to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a difference-maker.
"We'll keep riding this wave," said Mattingly.
