Seattle wasted a solid 6.2-inning effort from starting pitcher Randy D Johnson, losing to Toronto, 2-1, at Safeco Field. Toronto reliever Tom Henke snagged the win, upping his record to 1-2. Kazuhiro Sasaki shouldered the loss. The second-place Blue Jays have won 4 consecutive games.

Toronto won the game in part because of Candy Jim Taylor. The designated hitter ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 2-1. For the game, Taylor had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"You don't always need a lot of runs to win," said Taylor. "Sometimes you need just one or two."
