New York center fielder Mickey Mantle played a vital role in his team's 4-1 conquest of Cleveland. He went 2-3 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for New York. Rich Gossage nailed down his 2nd save. The 4th-place Indians have lost 4 straight games.
In the first inning, Mantle had a 2-run home run for New York. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Yankees on top, 2-0.
