Yankees Deal Oakland 5-2 Defeat

The New York Yankees got a strong performance from pitcher Lefty Gomez, who stymied the Oakland offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Yankee Stadium. New York's record now stands at 23-17, placing them first in the American League Eastern Division.
New York went up, 3-2, on Derek Jeter's 2nd triple of the season. The run-scoring triple, which Jeter hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Oakland pitcher Edsall Walker shaking his head.
Jeter attributed the win to his team's "concerted effort."
