Freehan Earns Praise as Tigers Topple Indians, 13-5
The Detroit Tigers stormed past the Cleveland Indians, 13-5, at Comerica Tigers Park. Detroit catcherBill Freehan , who is the 3rd-best prospect in the Tigers organization, led the hit parade. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Hal Newhouser was the winner. Over 5 innings, he yielded 4 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. Detroit, at 19-19, holds down second place in the American League Central Division.

With Detroit leading 9-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Freehan batted against Cleveland pitcher Dave LaRoche. Freehan hit a fastball to right-center for a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season put the Tigers on top, 12-4.
