The Oakland Athletics handed the Detroit Tigers a loss at O.co Coliseum. The final score was 8-7 in 18 innings. Eric Chavez was one of the major contributors for Oakland. In addition to his 2 singles and 1 home run, he scored 2 runs and drove in 1. The win went to Billy Taylor in relief, making him now 1-0. Hooks Dauss took the loss for Detroit. Oakland now has a record of 22-12 with the win.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 18th inning, when Oakland third baseman Jimmie Foxx, facing Hooks Dauss, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Athletics the 8-7 win.
