Guidry Twirls Gem for New York
|
In a tightly-contested game between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays, pitcher Ron Guidry was outstanding. The New York left-hander, who is tied for 3rd in the AL in wins with 4, propelled his team's 2-0 win. Sparky Lyle closed out the game, earning his 1st save. The first-place Yankees have a one-game lead in their division.
Guidry gave New York a solid start. The left-hander, who is listed at 5' 11", 160 lbs, allowed no runs on 2 hits over 7 innings.
"The object of the game is to score more runs than they do," said Guidry. "Mission accomplished."
