The Oakland Athletics satisfied the home crowd at O.co Coliseum, treating them to a season-opening win, 7-6, over the Chicago White Sox. Second Baseman Nap Lajoie was the standout performer for Oakland. Ryan Cook came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0.

Lajoie had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 2-2 fastball from Eddie Cicotte, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Athletics a 6-4 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Lajoie.

"It was a solid team effort," Lajoie said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
